Wildfires Force Thousands to Flee as Blazes Sweep Across Europe
Thousands of people have been evacuated across Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Croatia and Greece as intense wildfires spread through villages, forests and tourist areas.
In Croatia, at least a dozen people were reportedly hospitalised after fires reached the coastal tourist town of Omis, forcing residents and visitors to seek safety.
Firefighters across Europe are battling multiple blazes amid dry conditions and extreme temperatures. The fires follow a series of heatwaves that have affected the continent this year.
Around 500,000 hectares (1.24 million acres) of land across the European Union have been scorched by wildfires, highlighting the growing scale of the region’s extreme summer conditions.
Authorities continue to evacuate vulnerable communities while emergency crews work to contain the flames and protect homes and infrastructure.
