Two people killed in Kyiv

At least two people were killed during a Russian overnight missile attack on Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Wednesday. The deaths were reported in the densely populated Darnytskyi district, where a fire broke out during the strike. Klitschko said two people were rescued as firefighters dealt with the blaze.

The attack was part of a wider assault. Russia’s Defence Ministry described it as a “massive strike” on targets in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. The ministry said its forces hit port facilities in the Odesa region and vessels it alleged were being used in support of Ukraine’s armed forces. Those are Russia’s stated claims about its targets.

Repeated attacks raise concerns

Kyiv has faced repeated air attacks in recent weeks, including strikes affecting energy infrastructure and transport routes. Air-raid sirens have frequently sent residents to shelters, basements and metro stations. The latest casualty count reported here applies to Kyiv; authorities may provide additional information as damage is assessed.

The strike adds to the continuing risks for civilians in Ukraine’s capital and elsewhere. The immediate account confirmed two deaths and two rescues in the affected area, while broader damage and casualty assessments were still developing.
