Nor’easter Brings Flooding, Power Outages and Travel Disruption to US Northeast
A powerful nor’easter brought heavy rain, high winds and flooding to the northeastern United States on 26 September. The storm also caused widespread power outages and disrupted travel.
More than 400 flights had been cancelled by Saturday afternoon, while power outages affected over 88,000 homes and businesses. The outage figure had earlier reached 119,000, according to the report. FlightAware data later showed about 425 cancellations and 1,338 delays.
New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency in counties expected to face the worst conditions, including New York City. National Weather Service forecaster Bob Oravec warned that strong winds, high tides and heavy rain could persist for several days.
Officials urged residents to stay away from flooded areas and shorelines. New York Governor Kathy Hochul warned that entering or approaching the water during the storm could be life-threatening. Concerts and sporting events were among the plans disrupted by the weather.
