Hamas Likely to Elect New Gaza Political Bureau Chief Next Week
Hamas is expected to hold internal elections in the Gaza Strip next week to select a new head of its political bureau in the territory, according to Arab48, citing Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Ali Al-Amoudi is reportedly the leading candidate to take the position. He would succeed Khalil Al-Hayya, who was elected Hamas political bureau chief in July after competing with former leader Khaled Meshaal.
Al-Amoudi was considered close to former Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in Rafah in October 2024. According to the reports, Al-Amoudi also played a supporting role in efforts that led to the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.
The expected election comes as Hamas continues reorganising its leadership and political structure amid the ongoing conflict and ceasefire arrangements in Gaza.
