Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has drawn international attention after suggesting he could travel to Tel Aviv and potentially deploy up to 100,000 troops in support of Israel amid rising regional tensions.
The remarks were made in early April 2026 via social media, where Kainerugaba reiterated Uganda’s alignment with Israel. He previously stated on March 26, 2026, that Uganda would side with Israel if the country faced existential threats, adding that any attempt to “destroy or defeat Israel” would bring Uganda into the conflict on Israel’s side.
In a separate post, he claimed Uganda could provide as many as 100,000 soldiers if required, though no official government confirmation has followed.
Uganda and Israel have maintained longstanding diplomatic and military ties. Analysts say the comments are likely rhetorical but reflect Kampala’s clear political positioning as tensions involving Israel continue to escalate. No official troop deployment has been announced by the Ugandan government.
