At least seven Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in two Israeli airstrikes on a residential building and a civilian vehicle in Gaza City, according to medical sources. Three women and a child were among the victims. At least 45 others were injured, several critically.
The strikes targeted Izz al-Din al-Haddad, head of Hamas’ armed wing, whom Israel identified as responsible for attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the operation aimed at neutralizing Haddad, but his fate remains unconfirmed. Hamas has not commented on the attacks.
The airstrikes coincided with the 78th anniversary of Nakba Day, marking the displacement of around 750,000 Palestinians during the 1948 war. Gaza’s civil defence reported that hundreds of people lived in the building struck, and missiles were fired without warning, causing panic among residents. Since the ceasefire in October 2025, Israeli attacks have killed close to 850 Palestinians in Gaza, highlighting the fragile situation and ongoing humanitarian concerns.
