Palestinian Rights Group Warns of Deteriorating Conditions in Israel’s Ofer Prison

A Palestinian prisoners’ rights group has warned of worsening conditions inside Israel’s Ofer Prison, citing severe shortages of food, inadequate medical care, and declining health among detainees.

The Prisoners’ Media Office said in a statement that many Palestinian prisoners have suffered significant weight loss, which it attributed to what it described as a policy of food restriction and poor-quality meals inside the facility.

The group also reported the spread of skin diseases such as scabies and fungal infections, saying these outbreaks are linked to poor hygiene and lack of medical treatment.

According to the statement, sick prisoners are being denied adequate healthcare, while access to outdoor time and sunlight has been reduced, further worsening their physical and mental condition.

The office urged international human rights organisations to intervene, improve conditions, and ensure prisoners receive proper food, medical care, and basic rights. It said prison authorities bear responsibility for detainees’ welfare and safety.
