Russia has claimed it has taken full control of Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict, though Ukrainian officials dispute the assertion.

According to statements reported on April 1, Russia’s defence ministry said its forces had secured all remaining areas of the region after prolonged fighting. If confirmed, it would represent one of Moscow’s most substantial territorial gains since the conflict began.

However, Ukrainian authorities rejected the claim, stating that their forces still maintain positions in parts of the region and continue to resist Russian advances. The Luhansk region has been a central focus of the war in eastern Ukraine, with intense battles taking place over several years. Independent verification of full control remains difficult due to limited access to front-line areas.
