A Spanish football club president has faced widespread condemnation after a video showed him chasing Muslim players with pork, in what critics have described as a clear act of Islamophobia and disrespect toward religious beliefs.

The footage, recorded in Madrid, Spain, around 10–12 April 2026, shows Javi Poves, president of lower-division club CD Colonia Moscardó, running after several players while holding Iberian ham and shouting at them. The act has drawn strong backlash, particularly because pork consumption is forbidden in Islam, making the incident especially offensive to Muslim players.

The video quickly spread online, prompting accusations of racism, humiliation and religious intolerance from fans and commentators. Reports indicate the footage was originally shared as part of a promotional campaign but was later removed following criticism.

The incident has intensified concerns about Islamophobia in football, with critics arguing that such behaviour reflects a broader failure to respect diversity within the sport. Calls are growing for Spanish football authorities to investigate and take disciplinary action, with many insisting that incidents targeting religious identity must be treated seriously.
