A mayor in the Philippines survived an assassination attempt after attackers reportedly fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at a convoy in a violent attack that has raised concerns about political violence in the country.
Authorities said the explosion occurred near the mayor’s vehicle as the convoy was traveling through a local road. The blast damaged nearby property and vehicles but the mayor survived the attack. Police and military units quickly secured the area and launched an investigation to identify the suspects behind the assault. Officials have not yet confirmed how many attackers were involved.
While the mayor was unharmed, the attack has renewed concerns over security for local officials, particularly in regions where political rivalries and armed groups have previously been linked to violent incidents. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence as authorities search for those responsible.
