Israeli Forces Open Fire on Civilians in Southern Syria’s Daraa Village Amid Withdrawal

Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on civilians in the village of Abidin in southern Syria as they withdrew from the area, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

SANA reported that troops fired towards residents in western Daraa Governorate during their withdrawal on Sunday evening. No immediate injuries were confirmed, and Syrian authorities have not yet issued an official response.

Earlier the same day, Israeli forces were reported to have set up temporary positions, including tents on Tal al-Maghar and in the Yarmouk Basin area near Abidin. Syrian media also said live fire and illumination flares were used in nearby farmland after armoured vehicles moved through the region.

The incident comes amid a broader increase in Israeli military activity in southern Syria, including reported raids, searches of civilian homes, checkpoint establishment, and detentions in recent months.

Following political changes in late 2024 and the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement framework, Israel has expanded its presence in the UN-monitored buffer zone, further heightening tensions in the region.
