Former US Congresswoman and Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed that the Trump administration is discussing the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran as the prolonged conflict puts pressure on US military resources.

Greene said on social media that nuclear weapons were being discussed in strategy meetings and urged Americans to oppose further escalation. She warned that expanding the conflict could trigger a global “nuclear holocaust,” economic turmoil and unprecedented casualties.

Greene also questioned the justification for the war, arguing that US intelligence had previously indicated Iran was not close to developing a nuclear weapon. She accused Israel of repeatedly promoting claims that Iran was only weeks away from obtaining one.

Her comments come as reports indicate that US stocks of long-range precision missiles and air-defence interceptors have been heavily depleted by the conflict. NBC News has also reported on a Pentagon strategy that could give shorter-range tactical nuclear weapons a larger role in regional conflicts.

The claims about discussions of nuclear use against Iran have not been independently verified. The war has already caused thousands of deaths and disrupted global energy supplies, while tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain high.
