Saudi Arabia said King Fahd International Airport in Dammam came under attack on Sunday evening, as the Houthi movement claimed strikes on two airports and oil facilities in the kingdom.

Airport safety checks underway

The General Authority of Civil Aviation said damage assessments and safety inspections were being carried out at Dammam airport with other authorities. It did not immediately give details about casualties or the extent of any damage.

Earlier on Sunday, the authority had reported an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that caused injuries, without specifying the number or severity. The incidents came amid a series of attacks targeting Saudi civilian aviation facilities.

Houthis claim wider strikes

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted Dammam airport and claimed additional strikes on Riyadh airport, Aramco’s Shedgum gas plant and Tanajib oil facility in the Eastern Province. He said the operations were in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen and threatened further attacks.

The claims by the Houthis and the Saudi account of the airport incident are distinct: Saudi officials confirmed an attack and ongoing checks, while the group claimed responsibility and described its targets. The full extent of damage and any wider operational impact had not yet been established.
