Israel is reportedly seeking approval from the United States to expand its military operations in Lebanon, including carrying out large-scale air strikes on Beirut.
According to Israeli Channel 12, the request would mark a shift from limited targeted assassinations to broader aerial attacks on the Lebanese capital. The report says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a second security meeting in one day to discuss this potential escalation, including the option of moving away from territorial operations toward intensified air campaigns.
The proposal is said to depend heavily on coordination with the US administration. Netanyahu has reportedly been in talks with senior US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and has also attempted to convince President Donald Trump and others that Hezbollah should not be granted any safe zones in Beirut.
Israeli sources indicated that operational decisions regarding Beirut are being closely coordinated with Washington. While US officials are described as increasingly open to the idea, final approval has not yet been granted.
An Israeli source familiar with the discussions added that negotiations are ongoing and no definitive decision has been made so far.
