Hamad Says Mediation Efforts Have Not Ended the War

Hamas political official Ghazi Hamad said the movement had made repeated efforts to stop the fighting, including through contacts with mediators, the US administration and Palestinian factions. He said Hamas had made concessions during negotiations and expressed hope that ceasefire arrangements discussed in Sharm el-Sheikh and El Alamein would lead to stronger international efforts to end the conflict.

Criticism of the International Response

Hamad described the international response to the war in Gaza as inadequate, saying that destruction and civilian suffering continued. He accused Israel of pursuing continued military action and said its policies were also contributing to increased insecurity across the region, including in the occupied West Bank, Lebanon and Syria. These assessments represent Hamad's political claims and have not been independently established here.

Call for Pressure and a Ceasefire

Hamad's remarks highlight the gap between ongoing diplomatic efforts and the absence of a durable end to the hostilities. He called for stronger international pressure to halt the war and address the humanitarian consequences for Palestinians. His comments reflect Hamas's position and do not, on their own, establish an independent assessment of the conduct of the parties or the prospects for negotiations.
