Gaza’s Children Still Struggle With Hunger as New Famine Threat Emerges

Children across Gaza continue to struggle with hunger as families deal with the lasting effects of the famine declared in 2025 and face the threat of another severe food emergency.

In central Gaza, Sahar al-Bardini prepares breakfast for her three children at a displacement camp in al-Zawaida. The 35-year-old mother, who lost her husband in Israeli shelling, is the sole provider for Omar, six, Sama, four, and three-year-old Mahmoud.

Although the children may have a meal in front of them, their mother remains worried about where the next one will come from. Many families across Gaza face similar uncertainty as food supplies remain limited and access to essential resources continues to be difficult.

Infants and young children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of prolonged hunger and malnutrition, with the impact of the previous famine continuing to affect their health.

Aid agencies and health officials have repeatedly warned that without reliable access to food and humanitarian assistance, Gaza’s food crisis could deteriorate further, putting thousands of children at greater risk.
