Church of England Faces Pressure Over Debate on Palestinian Christian Gaza Report
The Church of England's General Synod is facing growing pressure from leading UK Jewish organizations and religious figures ahead of a planned discussion on a report by Palestinian Christian groups about the situation in Gaza.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis urged the Church to reject the motion, arguing that the document presents a one-sided account of the conflict and could damage Christian-Jewish relations. Several Jewish organizations, including the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Campaign Against Antisemitism, also criticized the report and called for it to be withdrawn.
The motion before the General Synod does not seek to endorse the document, known as Kairos II, but encourages members to read and engage with it as part of understanding the experiences of Palestinian Christians during the Gaza conflict.
Supporters of the proposal said the goal is to listen to the voices of Palestinian Christians while remaining concerned for both Palestinians and Israelis. The debate comes amid wider concerns over the future of Christian communities in the Holy Land and reports of increasing violence affecting Christian sites and residents.
