EU Warns Gaza Aid Crisis Is ‘Unbearable,’ Urges Israel to Allow Access
EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib has described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “unbearable,” urging Israel to allow greater access for humanitarian organizations operating in the territory.
Speaking ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels, Lahbib said ongoing violence, disease and civilian suffering showed the urgent need for humanitarian support. She accused Israeli authorities of lacking political will to improve aid access.
She stressed that humanitarian groups must be allowed to operate freely in Gaza and defended the role of UNRWA, calling the UN agency essential for providing medical, educational and relief services.
Lahbib also criticized the expansion of Israeli settlements, saying violent settlers were taking more territory with support from Israeli forces. She warned that southern Lebanon could face a prolonged humanitarian crisis similar to Gaza if tensions continue.
