US Lists Alibaba, BYD and Baidu as Chinese Military Companies

The United States has added Chinese technology and business giants Alibaba, BYD and Baidu to its list of companies alleged to support China’s military.

The designation was included in a Pentagon update and broadens Washington’s blacklist to cover some of China’s most recognizable corporate brands. The move is expected to increase tensions between the United States and China at a time when both sides have been seeking to stabilize relations after years of disputes.

China’s embassy in Washington criticized the decision, describing it as discriminatory and accusing the US of unfairly targeting Chinese businesses.

While the designation does not automatically impose sanctions, it could increase scrutiny of the listed firms and complicate their international business operations, particularly in the United States.
