At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured after a train collided with a passenger bus in Chachoengsao province near Bangkok, Thailand, on May 16, authorities said. The crash occurred at an unmanned railway crossing in the Ban Pho district, east of the Thai capital.
According to Thai emergency officials, the bus was carrying factory workers when it was struck by a freight train while attempting to cross the tracks early Friday morning. Rescue teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Local authorities said the death toll could rise as some victims remained seriously hurt.
Photographs from the scene showed the bus heavily damaged and overturned beside the railway line. Investigators are examining whether poor visibility, mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the collision.
Rail crossing accidents remain a recurring safety issue in Thailand, where many rural crossings lack automatic barriers or warning systems. Government officials said a formal investigation into the incident was underway.
