US and Iran mediators set up Lebanon de-confliction mechanism to enforce ceasefire
US and Iran mediators have announced the creation of a de-confliction mechanism aimed at supporting the implementation of the memorandum of understanding related to Lebanon.
According to a joint statement, the new “de-confliction cell” will include representatives from the United States, Iran, and the Lebanese government, with additional mediation support from countries facilitating the negotiations.
The mechanism is designed to ensure adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the MoU.
It will also serve as a direct communication channel to address incidents on the ground, reduce the risk of escalation, and monitor compliance with ceasefire commitments.
The initiative is considered one of the most sensitive components of the broader US-Iran agreement, focusing on preventing renewed hostilities in Lebanon.
