The United States has defended its recent military strikes against Iran as acts of “self-defense,” despite growing criticism over Washington’s expanding role in the conflict alongside Israel.

Speaking after the attacks, US officials said the strikes were intended to protect American forces and military assets in the region following rising tensions with Tehran. The Pentagon described the operations as necessary defensive measures amid fears of further escalation.

However, critics questioned how attacks carried out deep inside Iranian territory could reasonably be described as “self-defense,” arguing that the United States has become an active participant in a widening regional war rather than a neutral actor seeking stability.

The criticism intensified after reports emerged of additional American strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, with opponents warning that Washington’s involvement risks pushing the Middle East closer to a broader confrontation.

Analysts also noted that the United States has continued to support Israel politically and militarily throughout the crisis, leading many across the region to view the American position as directly tied to the escalation rather than separate from it.

Iran condemned the strikes as violations of its sovereignty and warned that continued attacks would have consequences, while international observers called for urgent diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from spiraling further out of control.
