UN Warns of Major Public Health Risks in Gaza as Infestations Spread

The United Nations has warned of worsening public health risks in Gaza, reporting that 83% of assessed displacement sites are affected by rodent and ectoparasite infestations.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), poor sanitation, sewage in streets, stagnant water and limited access to clean water are increasing the risk of disease among displaced civilians.

The UN said humanitarian teams are expanding pest control efforts but stressed that greater access to essential equipment, spare parts and waste disposal sites is urgently needed. It also called for improved access to landfills and continued support for water, sanitation and hygiene services to reduce health risks across the territory.
