Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sharaa has pledged to close displacement camps across the country by 2027, describing the effort as part of a broader plan to rebuild communities after years of conflict.

Speaking during a meeting with humanitarian organisations and local officials, al-Sharaa said the Syrian government aims to help displaced families return to their homes or move into permanent housing over the next two years. The proposal includes reconstruction efforts, infrastructure development and expanded public services in affected areas.

Millions of Syrians remain displaced after more than a decade of war, with many families continuing to live in temporary camps lacking stable access to healthcare, electricity and education. Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned about worsening living conditions in several camps, particularly in northern Syria.

Al-Sharaa reportedly said cooperation with international organisations and regional partners would be necessary to complete the plan. However, analysts note that ongoing economic challenges, damaged infrastructure and security concerns may complicate efforts to fully close the camps within the proposed timeframe.
