Anthropic Suspends Claude Fable 5 After US Security Concerns
Anthropic has suspended access to its latest AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, after US authorities raised security concerns only days after their public launch.
The company said it was ordered to restrict access for foreign nationals and decided to disable both models for all customers to ensure compliance. According to Anthropic, officials believe a method may exist that allows users to bypass or "jailbreak" the model's built-in safety protections.
Anthropic stated that it reviewed the reported technique and found it exposed only a small number of previously known vulnerabilities. The company also noted that similar weaknesses could reportedly be identified by other publicly available AI systems without requiring a jailbreak.
Before launch, Anthropic promoted Fable 5 as one of its most advanced AI systems and implemented additional safeguards to reduce cybersecurity risks. The company had initially provided limited access to selected organizations for testing because of concerns that the model's capabilities could potentially be used to exploit computer systems.
The suspension comes while Anthropic remains involved in a separate legal dispute with the Trump administration regarding the use of its AI tools by government agencies.
The development has reignited debate over AI safety, regulation, and national security. European officials said the incident highlights the importance of technological independence and stronger control over advanced AI technologies.
