A United States representative has warned that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains politically vulnerable amid rising tensions between the country’s ethnic leaders and disagreements with international partners. Speaking on May 12, the official said Bosnia continues to face institutional paralysis and deep political divisions that threaten long-term stability. Concerns have intensified over separatist rhetoric from Bosnian Serb leadership and disputes surrounding the authority of international overseers established after the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement.
The US representative stressed that Bosnia’s democratic institutions remain fragile and called for stronger cooperation between domestic political actors and Western allies. The comments come as the country faces increasing economic pressures and renewed fears of ethnic fragmentation.
International officials have repeatedly urged Bosnia’s leaders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and focus on reforms needed for closer integration with the European Union. Analysts warn that continued political deadlock could weaken governance and increase regional instability in the Balkans.
