Russia and Ukraine have taken part in a fresh round of peace talks in Geneva, as international efforts continue to seek a diplomatic path to ending the war.
The discussions, held over February 16–17, included U.S. and European involvement aimed at exploring potential ceasefire frameworks and broader security guarantees. Officials described the meetings as preliminary, with no immediate breakthrough announced, but emphasized that channels of communication remain open.
Diplomatic sources said the talks focused on territorial disputes, prisoner exchanges, and mechanisms to reduce frontline hostilities. However, both sides continue to hold firm positions on key issues, including control of occupied territories and long-term security arrangements.
The Geneva meeting comes amid continued fighting on the ground and follows earlier high-level diplomatic engagements in Europe, including discussions held in Munich. Analysts say expectations for rapid progress remain low, but maintaining dialogue is seen as crucial to preventing further escalation. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv has announced concrete agreements resulting from the latest round of talks.
