Red Cross Warns of Continuing Death, Destruction and Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Death and destruction continue to affect Palestinians in Gaza every day despite a reduction in the intensity of hostilities since last year’s ceasefire, a Red Cross spokesperson said.

Pat Griffiths, speaking during a visit to Gaza City, said the humanitarian situation remains severe. Palestinians continue to face shortages of food, clean water, medicines, shelter and fuel, while many people remain without adequate healthcare and access to essential services.

Humanitarian access remains a major challenge. Restrictions on the entry of essential supplies, including medical equipment, fuel, heavy machinery and materials needed to repair damaged water and sewage systems, are making conditions more difficult.

Thousands of displaced Palestinians are still living in tents, while some families have returned to damaged buildings despite the risk of collapse. Griffiths warned that approaching winter weather could increase the dangers facing those without safe shelter.

She said Palestinians continue to hope for a normal and dignified life, including returning home, working, attending school and living with their families. The Red Cross continues to call for greater humanitarian access and respect for international humanitarian law.
