Miscarriages Surge in Gaza as War Conditions Fuel Health Crisis for Pregnant Women
Doctors in Gaza have reported a major increase in miscarriages as pregnant women continue to face the effects of conflict, displacement, food shortages and limited medical care.
Health officials say miscarriage rates have risen dramatically since October 2023, with thousands of cases recorded during the war. Medical experts link the increase to severe anaemia, malnutrition, poor sanitation, contaminated water, psychological stress and difficult access to hospitals.
Many pregnant women have been forced to travel long distances for treatment due to damaged infrastructure and shortages of transport. Health workers are also reporting rising numbers of premature births and severe birth complications while hospitals struggle with limited resources.
Doctors warn that the ongoing humanitarian conditions could have long-term effects on maternal and child health in Gaza.
