Palestinian Scholars Warn Against Possible Extradition of Sheikh Miqdad to Israel
The Palestinian Scholars Association has raised concerns over the possible extradition of Sheikh Abdul Karim Raed Miqdad to Israel after his arrest in Indonesia and subsequent deportation to Cyprus.
The association called on Indonesian authorities to explain the legal basis for his detention and ensure his access to legal representation. It also urged Cypriot officials to prevent any action that could lead to his transfer to Israel.
The group said extradition could put Miqdad’s safety at risk and called for urgent diplomatic and legal efforts from Palestinian, Arab, and international organizations. It also appealed to human rights groups and media outlets to monitor the case.
According to an arrest document, Indonesian authorities detained Miqdad following an Interpol request related to allegations involving a suspect considered at risk of fleeing or hiding evidence.
