Palestinian Prisoner Hassan Salameh Describes Abuse and Starvation in Israeli Prisons

Palestinian prisoner Hassan Salameh has alleged severe abuse, starvation and medical neglect inside Israeli prisons, describing what he called harsh conditions in solitary confinement.

In a message published by his fiancée, Ghufran Al-Zamel, Salameh said prisoners in the Janot solitary confinement section had endured repeated raids, beatings and searches over a short period. He also claimed detainees were assaulted during prison transfers and while being taken to meet their lawyers.

Salameh said food provided in solitary confinement was insufficient, leaving prisoners in constant hunger. He also alleged that inmates receive only one hour of daily outdoor exercise in a confined area without sunlight and are prohibited from communicating with other prisoners.

He added that he was aware only of a small number of detainees being held in the same unit, saying strict isolation rules prevented any contact with other prisoners or knowledge of their condition.
