US–Iran Draft Deal Offers Sanctions Relief and Access to Frozen Funds

A leaked draft memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran reportedly outlines significant sanctions relief for Tehran, including permission to sell oil and petroleum products, along with phased access to frozen assets estimated at up to $300bn for reconstruction and development.

According to reports citing the draft, the agreement does not address several major US concerns, including Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and its ballistic missile programme, both of which have been central points in previous negotiations.

The text also indicates that the ceasefire arrangement would apply across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, reflecting a key Iranian demand that could create tensions with US allies such as Israel.

While the deal appears to offer major economic relief for Iran, it leaves several strategic and security issues unresolved, raising questions about its long-term viability and regional impact.
