Palestinian Mother and Daughter Escape as Israeli Settlers Set Their Home on Fire in West Bank

A Palestinian mother and her daughter narrowly escaped after masked Israeli settlers reportedly set fire to their home in the occupied West Bank’s Hebron governorate.

Aliya al-Nawajaa, the homeowner, said five masked attackers entered the Khirbet al-Fara area of Yatta at dawn. One of them opened the bedroom window where she was sleeping with her daughter and threatened the family before setting the room on fire.

The flames quickly spread, but Nawajaa managed to wake her daughter and flee the house. She then contacted her husband for help as neighbours had not immediately heard the attack.

Meanwhile, local sources said the Israeli army was moving mobile homes to a settlement outpost on Mount Tarousa, west of Dura, amid what they described as efforts to expand settlements in the area.

Since October 2023, attacks on Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank have intensified, including arrests, home demolitions, land destruction, settler violence and forced displacement. Palestinians warn that continued settlement expansion and attacks are increasing fears of further annexation of the West Bank.
