Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan Defends Palestinian Support Ahead of World Cup Match
Hossam Hassan has reiterated his support for the Palestinian people, saying that those who do not feel compassion for their suffering lack basic humanity.
The Egypt national football team coach made the remarks after dedicating Egypt’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup knockout stage to Palestinians and displaying the Palestinian flag following a victory over Australia.
Responding to questions about his stance ahead of Egypt’s match against Argentina national football team, Hassan said his position was based on humanitarian concerns, not religion or politics.
He criticized the international response to the suffering of civilians in Gaza Strip, highlighting the hardships faced by children and families affected by the conflict. Hassan called on athletes worldwide to use their platforms to support peace and the right of Palestinians to live safely.
