‘Platformicide’ of Palestine: Activists Struggle to Be Heard on Meta
Palestinian activists and journalists say they are facing growing difficulties reaching audiences on Meta platforms, raising concerns about censorship and restrictions on pro-Palestinian content.
Jerusalem-based journalist Faten Elwan, who has more than 300,000 Instagram followers, says her posts now receive only a few hundred views despite regularly covering Palestine and the Israeli occupation.
Elwan said her account was unexpectedly reactivated in April 2026 after a two-month suspension. She believes the suspension and sharp decline in visibility were linked to her pro-Palestinian advocacy.
A report by Palestinian digital rights organisation 7amleh and Utrecht University examined 3,520 alleged digital rights violations involving Palestinians, highlighting wider concerns over content moderation, account restrictions and reduced visibility on social media platforms.
