Over 130 Jordanian Figures Call for US Troop Withdrawal Amid Regional Tensions
More than 130 Jordanian political, academic, cultural and tribal figures have called for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Jordan and a review of the kingdom’s military agreement with the United States.
In a statement, the signatories warned that the presence of foreign troops could increase Jordan’s exposure to regional conflicts and create security, political and economic risks. They urged the government to submit the defence agreement with Washington to parliament for review.
The call comes after repeated attacks targeting facilities hosting US forces in Jordan, increasing public debate over whether the US military presence could draw the country into wider regional tensions.
The agreement, signed in 2021, allows US troops, aircraft and military equipment broad access in Jordan. Critics have previously questioned the lack of parliamentary review.
The signatories called for greater transparency, protection of Jordan’s sovereignty and a policy of neutrality in regional conflicts.
