UK Mosque Attacks Rise as More Than 70 Incidents Reported Amid Growing Islamophobia

Mosques across the United Kingdom faced attacks roughly every five days over the past year, according to new figures highlighting growing concerns over anti-Muslim hatred.

The British Muslim Trust (BMT), which monitors anti-Muslim incidents, recorded more than 70 attacks targeting mosques. Reported incidents included vandalism, threats, harassment, property damage, hate speech, and online abuse.

London, Greater Manchester, and the West Midlands recorded the highest number of incidents, with some mosques facing repeated attacks. The figures come alongside official data showing a rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes in England and Wales.

Muslim community leaders have called for stronger protection measures, saying many mosques face delays in accessing government security support. The UK government has allocated funding for security upgrades, including CCTV, alarms, fencing, and security staff, but campaigners say bureaucratic delays are leaving communities vulnerable.

The concerns follow several recent incidents involving far-right activity and threats targeting Muslim communities, increasing calls for urgent action against Islamophobia.
