Calls Grow for Mass Mobilisation at Al-Aqsa Mosque Amid Rising Tensions

Palestinian groups and organisations in Jerusalem have called for a large public presence at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound amid concerns over increased settler activity and plans they say could change the status of the holy site.

The groups urged Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, Israel and those able to travel from the occupied West Bank to attend Friday prayers and maintain a continuous presence at the mosque.

Organisers said the mobilisation aims to protect Al-Aqsa’s Islamic and Arab identity and challenge what they describe as efforts to alter Jerusalem’s historical and cultural character.

The calls come as tensions continue to rise around the Old City of Jerusalem and one of Islam’s most important religious sites.
