More Than 135 Million Europeans Face Temperatures Above 35
More than 135 million people across Europe are facing temperatures above 35°C as a powerful heatwave intensifies across the continent, with France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom among the hardest-hit countries.
Forecasts from the German weather service indicate that nearly three in five Europeans—around 340 million people—could experience temperatures above 30°C.
The estimates are based on European Commission population projections and broadly match separate monitoring by Austria’s Klimadashboard.
Europe is warming faster than any other continent, increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme heat. Many parts of the continent remain poorly equipped to cope with prolonged periods of exceptionally high temperatures, raising concerns about public health, infrastructure and vulnerable communities.
