Meshaal Warns Israeli Measures Could Bring Total Control over Al-Aqsa
Hamas political bureau member Khaled Meshaal warned that Israeli measures around Al-Aqsa Mosque were paving the way for total control and domination over the site. He made the comments during a discussion focused on the mosque.
Meshaal cited what he described as a 40-day closure, efforts to impose separate visiting and prayer times, and plans to empty key facilities in the compound. He also accused Israeli authorities of undermining the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf by restricting its guards and staff and obstructing maintenance work.
Calling Al-Aqsa at a crossroads, Meshaal urged Palestinians to maintain a presence at the mosque and called on Arab and Muslim countries to support efforts to protect it. His characterisation of Israel’s intentions and measures reflects his stated position.
