Heavy rains and flash floods have killed at least 45 people across Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent days, as severe weather swept through parts of South Asia.

In Afghanistan, officials reported that at least 28 people were killed and dozens more injured after intense rainfall triggered flooding in multiple provinces. Homes were destroyed, farmland damaged, and infrastructure disrupted, worsening conditions in already vulnerable areas.

In neighboring Pakistan, at least 17 people were reported dead due to similar flooding incidents, with authorities warning that the toll could rise as rescue operations continue. Emergency teams have been deployed in both countries to assist affected communities, while officials urged residents to remain cautious amid forecasts of continued rainfall.

The floods highlight the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather, which experts say is becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change. Both Afghanistan and Pakistan have faced repeated natural disasters in recent years, straining resources and humanitarian response efforts. Authorities continue to assess the damage as families search for missing relatives and begin recovery efforts.
