The Israeli military said Thursday that one of its soldiers was killed and three others were wounded in southern Lebanon. The wounded were taken to hospital, according to the army’s statement.

Casualties reported amid continued attacks

Lebanese authorities say Israeli attacks on Lebanon since 2 March have killed more than 4,380 people and injured over 12,410. The Israeli announcement did not identify the precise location of the latest incident or explain how the soldiers were hit.

Framework agreement calls for withdrawal

Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a United States-sponsored framework agreement in Washington on 26 June. The arrangement provides for Israel’s gradual withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.

Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon have continued despite the agreement. Israeli forces also remain in control of areas inside Lebanon, including locations held for decades and others taken during more recent wars and military operations.

The latest reported casualties add to tensions over implementation of the framework and the presence of Israeli forces in Lebanese territory.
