Israeli Army Reportedly Opens Fire on Civilian Areas in Southern Syria

The Israeli military reportedly opened fire toward civilian areas in Maariya village in southern Syria’s Daraa province, according to Syrian state television.

The gunfire was directed at residential areas from positions occupied by Israeli forces in southern Syria. The incident reportedly forced some residents to leave their homes, although there were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.

Southern Syria has faced repeated Israeli military incursions in recent months, including raids, searches and arrests.

The situation intensified after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024. Israel subsequently declared the 1974 disengagement agreement no longer valid and took control of parts of the Syrian buffer zone.

The latest incident adds to growing tensions along Syria’s southern border, where Israeli forces continue to maintain military positions.
