Israel is preparing to host what organizers describe as the largest LGBTQ festival in the Middle East, with a new event called “Pride Land” scheduled for June 1, 2026, near the Dead Sea. The four-day event is set to take place in the Judean Desert, where a temporary festival site will include entertainment, accommodation, and large-scale gatherings.
The announcement has drawn attention beyond tourism, as critics argue that such events are often promoted internationally while ongoing tensions and the situation in Palestinian territories continue. Some activists have previously described Israel’s promotion of LGBTQ events as part of efforts to improve its global image.
Israel has long positioned itself as a regional hub for LGBTQ tourism, particularly through events in Tel Aviv. However, the issue remains sensitive both regionally and within Israeli society itself, where religious communities — including Jewish, Muslim, and Christian groups — often oppose such festivals on cultural or religious grounds. The planned event comes amid continued debate over identity, politics, and how countries present themselves on the global stage.
