Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Attends Khamenei Funeral in Unexpected Diplomatic Gesture

Saudi Arabia’s Vice Foreign Minister Walid al-Khuraiji and a delegation unexpectedly attended the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, marking a rare diplomatic presence amid historically tense relations between the two countries.

The visit comes after Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in March, urged Iran to “recalculate” its regional strategy following repeated strikes on US bases in Saudi territory. He warned that continued attacks on Gulf states would not be tolerated.

The attendance at the funeral is being viewed as a cautious diplomatic gesture, reflecting ongoing regional tensions alongside limited channels of communication between Riyadh and Tehran.
