Iran Says New Anti-Ship Missile Was Tested Over US Warship
Iran says it has successfully tested a new anti-ship missile over a US Navy vessel amid escalating tensions over the US naval blockade.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the missile was tested above an American warship for the first time. He described it as a “special missile” and claimed the US vessels fled the area after the attack.
Earlier Sunday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its Aerospace Force fired ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and destroyer involved in the blockade, forcing the vessels to leave.
US Central Command acknowledged that the ships came under attack by hostile missiles but said the threats were intercepted without damage, followed by retaliatory strikes.
Rezaei said the US acknowledgement demonstrated that Washington could not conceal the attacks and showed that the naval blockade remained vulnerable.
