Hamas Says Gaza Police Station Strike Violated Ceasefire and Targeted Police Personnel
Hamas has rejected Israel’s account of an Israeli strike on a police facility in Gaza City, saying the attack primarily killed police officers and personnel rather than members of its armed wing.
Palestinian sources said nine people were killed and several others wounded when the facility was struck on Wednesday afternoon. Hamas described the attack as a violation of the Gaza ceasefire and accused Israel of attempting to obstruct its implementation.
The group disputed Israeli claims that the strike targeted Hamas field commanders, calling the allegations baseless and saying they were being used to justify attacks against Gaza’s police force and civilians.
Israel maintained that the operation targeted Hamas commanders and said the head of Gaza’s women’s police force was among those targeted.
Hamas also connected the strike to ongoing diplomatic efforts involving mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement, including recent discussions involving US envoy Jared Kushner. The group accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of undermining those efforts.
Hamas warned that continued Israeli attacks could derail negotiations aimed at completing the ceasefire roadmap and moving toward its next phases.
