About 82 percent of buildings in Gaza had been damaged by June 16, 2026, according to a Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics summary of satellite-based assessment data. The estimate counts 201,290 damaged buildings across the territory since October 7, 2023.
Damage Ranges From Partial to Total
The figures distinguish between different levels of destruction. An estimated 134,422 buildings were completely destroyed. Another 13,848 sustained severe damage, while 28,096 were classed as moderately damaged and 24,924 as lightly damaged. The assessment also counted approximately 328,627 damaged housing units.
The 82 percent figure describes buildings that sustained damage; it does not mean that all of them were destroyed. The numbers were based on satellite imagery analysed by the United Nations Satellite Centre and cover damage recorded through June 16, 2026.
Housing and Recovery Challenges
The scale of damage has left families facing prolonged displacement and a shortage of safe housing. Rebuilding homes will also depend on restoring water, sanitation and other essential services.
The statistics agency released the figures as part of a wider update on housing conditions in Palestine. It said extensive destruction in Gaza, alongside displacement and housing demolitions in the occupied West Bank, has created urgent needs for shelter, recovery and reconstruction.
