Hamas Rejects Calls to Consider Netanyahu’s Election Timing as Gaza Attacks Escalate
Hamas says it remains committed to a peace roadmap for Gaza but has rejected calls to consider Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political situation ahead of Israel’s upcoming elections.
Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim told CNN that the group is still prepared to pursue the proposed roadmap to give Palestinians an opportunity to rebuild their lives and achieve stability and peace.
However, Naim said US adviser Jared Kushner and other mediators had urged Hamas to be “sensitive” to Netanyahu’s political circumstances as the Israeli election approaches.
Naim rejected the idea, saying Palestinians should not have to bear the cost of protecting Netanyahu’s political position. He also accused Israel of failing to meet its obligations under the ceasefire.
His comments come as Israeli attacks across Gaza have intensified, reportedly killing dozens of Palestinians while restrictions on humanitarian aid and essential supplies continue.
Hamas says the continued attacks and limited access to aid are undermining efforts to establish lasting calm and improve conditions for Palestinians in Gaza.
