Deaths and injuries among women and girls
Three years into the Gaza war, women and girls have faced widespread loss, injury and the collapse of essential services. Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics figures cited in July counted 12,400 women killed in Gaza, not including girls. UN Women estimated that more than 38,000 women and girls were killed between October 2023 and December 2025, and that nearly 11,000 sustained injuries expected to cause lasting harm.
Pregnancy and reproductive care under strain
Medical organisations have also described sharply worsening conditions for pregnant women. Physicians for Human Rights documented 2,600 miscarriages during the first half of 2025, alongside 220 pregnancy-related deaths and 1,460 premature births. The findings reflect a health system struggling to provide safe pregnancy care, nutrition and emergency treatment amid displacement and shortages.
Daily needs remain unmet
UN Women said in June 2026 that around one million women and girls lacked access to clean water, while hundreds of thousands were living in overcrowded shelters. The figures come from the named Palestinian and UN bodies and medical organisations; they highlight the scale of the humanitarian and health emergency facing women and girls in Gaza.
